U.S. attorney General William Barr has announced his intention to seek the death penalty for the perpetrators of the attack on the Boston marathon Johar Tsarnaev. His words are reported by the Associated Press.
“We will do everything necessary,” Barr said. He explained that the us justice Department intends to bring the case to the Supreme court and seek the death sentence for Tsarnaev.
On July 31, an appeals court overturned Tsarnaev’s death sentence. Before that, he was found guilty on 30 counts. The case has been referred to a lower court for a new trial at the sentencing stage.
The Boston marathon bombings on April 15, 2013 killed three people and injured more than 260. The security services have established that the suspects in the crime are brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. During the pursuit, they engaged in a shootout with the police, Tamerlan was fatally wounded, and Dzhokhar was detained.
